VISITING ARTIST MARLY HALLER

MARLY HALLER at the Afriart gallery with her students

Visiting Artist and Teacher Marly Haller came to Stand Tall for 5 weeks and transformed our art program into an extraordinary experience for both students and teachers. Her aim was to challenge our ideas about what art is, its purpose and its function. The students, from youngest to oldest, spent 5 weeks evolving their art piece from simple contour to rich, layered and personal expressions in their finished product. The two senior classes were treated to a visit to the Afriart Gallery to see the work of Emmie Nume. The teachers participated in two professional development workshops that aimed to elevate their teaching practices through the use of learning games, visual aids, drama, and students taking on a teaching role. Some of the art below illustrates the remarkable work that came out of these five weeks.
